I wanted to create a blog post to capture the more informal aspects of my activities as an academic at the University of Bristol, UK.

When I was a teenager I felt a bit lost, but I became inspired by BEAM robotics and Mark Tilden. At the time I was working full time in a supermarket and the internet was just establishing itself - so it seems remarkable in hindsight that a sparse set of images and articles set me on the path to where I am now. So in a sense, I’d like to return the favour if I can. Maybe some notes and reflections on what I actually do and think about could be enough to inspire someone on their own journey. I love my job as an academic, but it also seems to be quite a mysterious and diverse occupation - it often still feels that way to me.
